University of Kent Falklands conference

University of Kent Falklands conference

On 26-27th April, Klaus Dodds and Alasdair Pinkerton will be at the University of Kent reflecting on the 30th anniversary of the 1982 Falklands conflict. Klaus will present on the run-up to the Argentine invasion and in particular how the Falkland Islands community tried to mobilize ‘kith and kin’ arguments to bolster their connections with the UK. Alasdair will focus on the role of radio broadcasting before and during the conflict itself, and the role the Falkland Islands Broadcasting Service which memorably informed listeners of the ongoing invasion in real-time.

I have written about some of this pre-1982 context in the April issue of History Today.
