Job Opportunity: Associate Research Fellow at University of Exeter

It is a pleasure to report on a job opportunity at the University of Exeter working with a colleague Dr Sean Carter. As part of a project on ‘Ludic Geopolitics: Children’s Play, War Toys and Re-enchantment with the British Military’  (Dr Tara Woodyer at the University of Portsmouth is the PI), the Associate Research Fellow would be part of a team based at Exeter, Portsmouth and Royal Holloway and in partnership with the V and A Museum of Childhood. The post will involve fieldwork, data analysis and dissemination activities as well as helping to write project outputs.

Ideally, the candidate would have the following qualifications and experience:

“Applicants will possess (or have recently submitted) a relevant PhD and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in one or more of the following disciplines: Human Geography (especially Political Geography), International Relations, Politics or History. They will also possess sufficient knowledge of qualitative research methods and techniques. Knowledge of current academic research relating to one or more of the themes of the project (geopolitical cultures, militarisation, and war play) would be desirable, as would experience of generating qualitative data via archival work, visual and textual analysis, participant observation and/or interviews. Experience of undertaking research with children and families would also be beneficial. In addition some familiarity with web authoring and/or disseminating ideas via social media is desirable”.

The closing date is 23 June 2015 and is available for 9 months from July 2015 onwards.
